Resum

This article presents the conclusions ofa research project on the configuration of journalistic discourse in the socalled era of "live II history, a period characterized by the proliferation of media events in which television is the principal element defining the news, the account of social reality which is put in public relief. Research indicates that the invention of the daily newspapers is brought to a standstill when a social institution is the protagonist ofa media event. In the same way, the discourse of social institutions is reduced to secondary importance in the media re-contextualization given by journalism, solely concerned with the narration of the event itself. Confirmation of this is to be found at the center of the configuration ofpost-modem society as the Age of Chaos.
