Abstract

This article takes as its starting point the contradiction implied in the idea that, in a world globalized by means ofthe mass-media, new importance is being given to the myth of the individual. The definition of self-identity requires that the media treat the figure of the other as that ofan enemy. The media create this image not based on reality, but rather on the reduction of reality to a series of archetypes. The author proposes representation as a way of producing images of the enemy. A type of representation of the enemy which is only possible when pervaded by a point of view. However, the media favor the discourse of the "impression of truth" and deny the existence ofa point of view.
