In the hands of certain ‘auteurs’ such as Bresson, Passolini, Allen, Lynch or Von Trier, the cinema addressed to the public at large presents stories from which topics emerge which are raised above current events and deal instead with philosophical questions. Thus, despite appearances, ‘Match Point’ is not a film about ordinary life, the material of the society pages of newspapers, but rather, starting from the typical plot of a thriller, Woody Allen raises a reflection on the meaning of ethics and, thus, of life. He philosophizes. A types of philosophy in which reverberates the idea of Vattimo, according to whom so-called postmodern philosophy has a tendency to distance itself from the traditional systems and adopt a colloquial language that is “contaminated” and “weak”, but which makes accessible to the public at large a serious reflection on problems which are vital in the world today.

This article examines the ways in which journalistic procedures have been influenced by the digitalization of television newsrooms, within the comparative framework of two “24 hour” news channels. The study is based on research carried out both in a British public service television, (BBC News 24) and an Italian public television (Rainews 24). There are differences in size, culture, structure and output between the two channels analysed. Both newsrooms have introduced wide structural changes, such as allowing journalists to edit the pieces by themselves and to produce news for television and the Internet. Consideration is given to issues such as organizational structure, multi-skilling and journalists´s working habits developed in this process. And it is also examined the issue as to whether these newsrooms are used as a laboratory for testing new technology and organizational systems.

Researches about communication can’t deny music, from sociologist, anthopological or aesthetics perspectives, above all because audio-visual means serve to spread of musical products in the context of mass culture. Specifically, European research in communication must pay special attention to the role that music plays in audio-visual lenguage. We can’t forget audio-visual narrative in our days is built unfailingly from the association of visual and sound, specialy the music. That music insists expressively and narratively on the line shown in the image. That’s way both materials (iconic/ concrete and sound/symbolic) increase each other in the same context.

When courts administer justice, they are making decisions of a political nature. The sentences pronounced by judges and magistrates help to configure the framework of harmonious coexistence en the society of each country. Their juridical action resolves the primary conflicts unleashed in new areas or disciplines, however far these may be from the field of the Law. This happens, for example, with journalism on the Internet. However, in this case, the journalists will also have to intervene in these controversies in order to arrive at ethical and appropriate solutions based strictly on professional criteria. It is at this point that the need for both clear and flexible self-regulation is born. Otherwise, injustices will be committed that are endorsed by current legislation. Two recent cases have led us to this conclusion. Although the sentence was partially overturned, an American judge determined that the authors of supposedly informative weblogs did not enjoy the same rights as professional journalists and attempted to oblige three bloggers (the authors of Thinksecret, PowerPage and Apple Insider) to reveal their sources. Furthermore, in another sentence which was also not definitive, a Spanish magistrate decreed that the photographers for the newspaper ‘La Vanguardia’ should be paid extra for the use of their work in the on-line edition of the paper.

This article attempts to give the lie to one of the fundamental prejudices held about the letters to the editor throughout the decades in the manuals of journalism. This misperception states that the letters to the editor are public letters, given that they are published. The letters to the editor are, from the point of view of historical analysis and, above all, from the analysis of the letter as a text, private letters, not public ones. This is a type of private letter, which, through their use by the figure of the editor of a newspaper, are brought to the eyes of the public. The importance of this perspective lies in the degree of truth contained in the letters to the editor, which makes them a journalistic piece of the first order, the fruit of the participation of readers in newspapers and magazines. The letters form small storerooms of truth.

This text makes a somewhat ironic reflection on the destinies awaiting the old forms of visual art, which today find themselves in the midst of a battlefield due to the generalized aggressiveness of the media. The ideas explored by Paul Virilio in ‘Silence Procedure’ (2001), in theoretical terms, and the proposal of a project of reinsertion of the traditional work of art, in practical terms, may come to stop the loss of voice which afflicts traditional visual art and to some extent temper the sudden insignificance of what has begun to be considered a sort of implausible silent art.
