Abstract
Audiovisual documentation for television is being adversely affected by both external factors – principally, the economical crisis – and internal factors. The external factors have caused changes to different areas of television such as programming, a decrease in production of in-house programs, the closing down of correspondents’ offices, mergers of different channels, etc. The internal factors, the digitalization of audiovisual production and the analog archive, have brought about changes in tasks that until recently had been done by information professionals and nowadays are being carried out by journalists. Those factors affect not only the daily work of the information professionals but also their raison d’être. The purpose of this article is to show that the current questioning of the profession lacks argumentation. On the one hand, the impact of the external and internal factors already mentioned on information professionals is not as negative as it may seem a priori; and, on the other hand, although it is true that this discipline will have to adapt to new circumstances, the existence of television information professionals will prove itself to be ever more necessary. Key words: audiovisual documentation, television, digitalization, economical crisis, audiovisual archive, audiovisual material, selection of contents, documentary analysis, documentary treatment, retrieval of information, internet. Downloads
